When parents cannot predict what will happen next, they fill the gaps with fear. And fear turns into emails, meetings, and pressure on teachers.

To move from idea to blueprints to buildings to students running through the halls is a process that still fills me with wonder. To go from idea to the first day of school requires countless hours of work and decisions upon decisions.

No. But they must be involved in the learning process. And that process must include their feedback to the teacher.

For a long time, I did not believe LinkedIn belonged in that conversation. I was late to Facebook and never really saw the point.

With Typhoon Ragasa approaching Macau, I can’t help but think back to Typhoon Hato in 2017—my first day of teacher training for the year at The International School of Macao .

I used to think my job as a leader was to be the head mechanic. If a teacher was struggling, I’d find the right "tool" from my fancy toolbox. If a program was failing, I’d "fix" it with a new policy. I had a blueprint for success.
