Heads of School: stop hiding behind your marketing team.

Heads of School: stop hiding behind your marketing team.

Your marketing team cannot be the voice of your school.

They can build the platform.

They can find the stories.

They can help you tell them.

But eventually, you have to get on the platform.

Parents don’t want another perfectly polished paragraph from “The Office of Communications.”

And they definitely don’t need more generic institutional content that reads like AI slop.

“Our school is committed to nurturing lifelong learners in an inclusive and innovative environment…”

Nobody talks like that!

More importantly, nobody connects with it.

Parents want to hear from real people.

They want to hear the Head explain why the school teaches the way it does.

They want the Primary Principal talking about what children really need when they first start school.

They want the counsellor helping them understand anxiety.

They want the language specialist explaining how to raise a bilingual child.

They want teachers showing them what great learning actually looks like.

Your marketing team should find those voices, create the platform and help tell those stories.

But school leaders have to be willing to step onto it.

Not as salespeople.

Not as reporters.

As educators.

Tell people what you believe.

Explain what makes learning at your school different.

Talk about the problems you’re trying to solve.

Share something you’ve learned.

Take a position on an issue affecting education.

You don’t need to become an influencer or dance in TikTok.

You need to become visible.

Because your school’s brand isn’t what your marketing department says about your school.

It’s what people believe about it.

And people connect with people, not institutions.

Your marketing team can build the stage.

But school leaders still have to step onto it.

So what’s holding you back?
