As we search for its next Head of School, I’ve been thinking about the decisions that shaped what it became. The International School of Macao
The growth from roughly 300 students to more than 1,400 gets attention.
But the more interesting story is what happened behind those numbers.
Some decisions worked. Some were difficult. Some were made when we had no idea what would happen next.
We navigated rapid growth, major campus expansion, the loss of a significant source of government funding, COVID, changing demographics and a school community whose expectations kept rising.
I’ve tried to tell that story with the same openness that seemed to resonate with people in yesterday’s Head of School post.
Not as a victory lap.
As a case study in what it actually takes to build, grow and sustain an international school over two decades.
And perhaps some useful context for anyone considering becoming TIS’s next Head.
