Thailand’s new school safety requirements landed this week, and the timing was striking.

Just yesterday I was recording a 21st Century Learning  podcast with Patrick Hurworth  about student wellbeing, mental health and how schools respond when the unimaginable happens.

I’ve spent much of my career developing and refining school emergency procedures, beginning after a school shooting in Canada many years ago.

What I’ve learned is that having an emergency plan and being ready for an emergency are two very different things.

Thailand’s new requirements ask schools to address emergency response, communication, drills, access and screening, mental-health support, psychological first aid and coordination with outside agencies.

I’m also happy to,see that it is addressing the broader issues of student and staff wellness and mental health.

That’s a lot to implement well.

So I’m curious, particularly from school leaders in Thailand:

How ready is your school?

And what would actually help you most over the next 90 days?

A readiness audit?
Templates and protocols?
Staff training?
Leadership simulations?
Support running effective drills?
Mental-health and post-crisis response training?

Or something else?
